Background
Paul Campbell is a full-time artist photographer, living and working at his home on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Born in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire in 1954, Paul graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University as a mature student in 1995, with an honours degree in photography for communication media. Having worked as a commercial photographer and artist-photographer for a time in Manchester, he moved to the Isle of Skye in 1996.
From his home studio at Moorlands on Skye, Paul now concentrates on photography as an artistic medium. Each image he produces is a hand crafted original.
The theme of man's working relationship with the environment figures prominently in much of his work, for example, decommissioned fishing boats and old farm buildings. He has always been drawn to the coast, particularly that of North East Yorkshire, Northumbria and the West Coast of Scotland.
Paul's images, whether still life or landscape, convey the extraordinary in the everyday. A stillness pervades many of his images, creating a sense of anticipation - inviting contemplation of the circumstances behind the scene presented. They suggest an interval, the length of which has not been determined.
Paul has had joint exhibitions in Manchester and Skye. At present his work can be viewed at:
An Tuireann Arts Centre, Portree , Isle of Skye.
Broadford Gallery, Old Pier Road, Broadford, Isle of Skye.
Moorlands Studio, Breakish, Isle of Skye.
